Why are we on the street talking to
people about God?
Our mission was given to us (and
every Christian) by Jesus
himself:
- And he said unto them,
Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to
every creature. Mark 16:15
-
- It is our intention to deliver
the true Biblical message that Jesus was crucified,
dead, buried, and rose on the third day, and that
whoever repents of their sins and trusts in Jesus will
have everlasting life. Whoever chooses to refuse
Jesus' salvation will be cast into the lake
of fire on Judgment
Day.
On The Street
As we are on the street talking to
people we prefer to deliver the message in the same manner
in which Jesus and his disciples did. They taught repentance
and trust
in the Savior will save you from the wrath of God on
Judgment Day. We use the Law (just as Jesus and His
disciples did) to show people how sinful they are before
God and then we give them the Good
News. We do not stand in judgment of the ones we
talk with. We are sinners just like everyone else,
however, we have been saved by the grace of God through
repentance and trust in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
- The Gospel Message:
- We believe that today's
contemporary Gospel message has been watered down to
the extent that it is no longer the same Gospel that
Jesus delivered to us, nor the same message that
countless martyrs throughout Christian history have
given their lives for.
-
- In the New Testament John
the Baptist delivered a message of repentance
- (Matthew
3:2) because the Kingdom of Heaven was near.
Jesus' message that he consistently delivered was one
of repentance (Matthew
4:17). When Jesus enlisted His followers
with the Great Commission they preached the same
message of repentance (Acts
17:30).
The modern Gospel message of today
has broken away from the Biblical message of salvation
through repentance and trust in Jesus as Savior.
Today when you hear an altar call you will generally hear
this:
You have a God-shaped hole
in your heart that only God can fill. Is your
marriage on the rocks? Are your kids out of control?
Are you out of work or in a dead-end job? You need
Jesus! Jesus can fix all of your problems. God
has a wonderful plan and purpose for your life. All
you have to do is say this simple prayer today and you
will be on the road to success: "God, I give myself
to you today. I cannot do this on my own.
Please take my life and turn it around. I want your
plan and purpose for my life and I commit my life to you
today." If you said this prayer today and
really meant it you are officially in the Kingdom of God
and you are a child of God.
For the sake of clarification God
will save whom He will save and there are certainly people
that have been saved that recited the sinner's prayer.
We cannot dictate to God how or whom He will save.
It is simply an observation that many are
"backslidden" and this could have been prevented
if the sinner had come to God in repentance and trust in
Jesus. Today's messages and the sinner's prayer are
primarily man-centered and have forsaken Jesus' teachings
on repentance and trust. The main concern is that
many people have said the sinner's prayer, but there is no
contrition or change
in their lives. If one prays the modern prayer it is
questionable if he has truly repented
of his sins. In many churches today the word sin is
hardly used at all or it is generalized and rarely
personalized.
In the book of James it
is written, Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to
you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your
hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and
weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your
joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of
the Lord, and he shall lift you up. This is a clear call to
repentance.
Just as it would be foolish to
assume that if someone has said the sinner's prayer that
they are not truly repentant; it would be just as foolish
to assume that if someone comes to God through the use of
the Law, to show the need for a Savior, that they are
truly repentant as well. Repentance and trust are
truly matters of the heart and are strictly between the
individual and God. Jesus taught on this subject when He
delivered the Parable
of the Sower.
However, if one is brought through
the Law they are more likely to truly see their need for a
Savior because they see how sinful they are in God's eyes.
Once one realizes how guilty he is before an infinitely
righteous and holy God he will be more likely to truly
repent and trust in the Savior, thereby being the
"good soil" that Jesus referred to in the Parable of
the Sower.
What About The Church?
Let me make it abundantly clear that
this website is not a call to abandon the local church.
We are taught in the Bible to not forsake
the assembly of the brethren. Believers are
called to gather in order to teach,
exhort,
and edify
one another. This website is simply a call and
encouragement to take on the Great Commission and preach
the Gospel biblically.
If you would like to learn how to
witness to people Biblically, the way that Jesus did,
visit the "Do You Know The Lord?" tab at the top
of the page.
